Apparently some of our members have experiencing difficulty and/or are raising concerns with respect to the federal tax withholding on their postal pay checks.
The USPS apparently provided correspondence to employees earlier this year advising them to review their W-4, and make any necessary changes by submitting a new one. The employees were referred to their tax preparer for assistance.
Here’s what occurred:
The IRS revised the 2020 W-4 Form, Employee’s Withholding Certificate in order to comply with the income tax withholding requirements contained in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. The revised form eliminated withholding allowances. The IRS also redesigned the withholding tables.
While the IRS is not requiring all employees to complete a new form, a new form is required for new hires-hired in 2020. A new form is also required for those employees whom desire to make changes to their withholding in 2020.
A copy of the new Form W-4 is attached.
Eagan has apparently advised there are no system issues. Therefore, as indicated above, this is an IRS issue, not a USPS issue.
